Catherine Hill Bay Pier

Flaming Stars...

It's not often I catch a meteor let alone two in the one frame let alone zodiacal light, as the first frame on a shoot they don't come any better for me. This is what remains of the jetty after a bush fire in 2013 destroyed a branching link on the right hand side leaving only steel and concrete.

Leading lines, Ships in Waiting..

Quite imposing in the early dawn with the ships on the horizon waiting to enter nearby Port of Newcastle. Sadly the pier's future is in doubt in regards to being restored or demolished. Here in Australia, we have a bad history of destroying our past, still, I hope that common sense prevails, in the long run, I would love to see the view from the end of this structure.

Paint the dawn...

Used the Lenser torch to paint in some light detail on the pier while long exposing for the foreground.

Slippery Location...

You need to keep your feet under you out on this rock platform, the mosses and lichen that grow here are like ice underfoot.

Anchoring the Sun...

The sun rises thru the legs of the pier with one of the waiting ships highlighted on the horizon. The scale of these chain links is really something to see first hand ... not your hardware store variety.

Fiery Flare...

Just off from the burnt stumps of the section that was lost in 2013 the sun fires up under the pier.

On the Apex..

This image is also in my - 52 Sunrises 2018 - it's a great feeling when the shoot is just about over and your planning has paid off - right about now I could relax and finally enjoy the moment.

One last long look at this structure before heading back ... I had such a great time here , if you get the chance to visit it's well worth the effort.
