Lake Illawarra

Located in the heart of the Shellharbour and Wollongong region. Described as a large coastal lagoon the lake is tidally affected with it's entrance at Windang on the coast.

On average the lake is only a couple of meters deep with great amounts of bird and sea life.

Shielded in the west by the Illawarra escarpment the lake is very picturesque and one of my favourite 'go-to' locations when the conditions are good.

    Windang Pier

I found this little pier some time back hidden in the foreshore between the caravan parks on the lake. There was a nice shaded carpark, tables and walking track to compliment it - including a bird blind nearby to watch the abundant fauna of the lake. Sadly this location is gone to ruin thanks to the mindless bureaucracy of successive governments canning the Lake Authority that had been instrumental in bringing the lake back to life after years of abuse and misuse.
